Film Reviews, Short Review

[REC] (2007)

3/4

For much of its running time, [REC] is a decent, if not particularly scary or spooky, found footage zombie movie. The performances are fine, and the way the directors, Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró, deal with the limitations of budget and format is admirable. [REC] only really takes off in its final 15 or so minutes, when the film takes a turn for the damn terrifying in a way that pushes all of my personal creepy buttons. With a running-time of only 75 minutes anyway, that final payoff is easily worth the wait, turning a mediocre zombie film into a superior one.
