Time Bandits (1981)

A Terry Gilliam film in which a group of time-travelling dwarves abduct a young boy and go on adventures throughout history; what’s not to like? Time Bandits still suffers from all the glorious flaws of most Terry Gilliam films – lack of pacing, visual excess, and an over-the-top-ness that sometimes begins to grate – but nevertheless, the shenanigans are still plentiful. There’s also an excellent cast of big names (including some of the Monty Python crew and Sean Connery), against whom the film’s comparatively unknown band of dwarves stand tall. Although Time Bandits is not quite as visually engaging nor beautifully insane as Gilliam’s best work, it’s still quite an entertaining, cheesy romp.
