Blade Runner (1982)

It seems to take most people a while to ‘get’ Blade Runner. It took the vast majority of critics multiple decades and many recuts to ‘get’ Blade Runner, and it took me a while for the film to finally blow me away too. I’ve seen it many a time yet I’ve always been slightly underwhelmed by it. A friend of mine once said “Ridley Scott creates great worlds, but he rarely makes great films,” and Blade Runner is the absolute epitome of a great world. Watching the final cut in a cinema this time, I was astounded at the obscene levels of detail and beauty that went into making this universe. A staggering achievement, made all the better by a fantastic central performance holding it all together (hint: it’s not Harrison Ford).
