A Field in England (2013)

3.5/4

My only serious issue with A Field in England is the fact that at one point, one of the characters mentions that he thinks they’re in Monmouthshire. This would make the film A Field in Wales as opposed to A Field in England. I’m sure director Ben Wheatley is just toying with my affections. The film itself is superb. Low-budget and simple, it is nevertheless a brilliant bad mushroom trip of a film. One can read into many an allegory or metaphor, but ultimately this is just brilliantly made – atmospheric, dark and moody, with Ben Wheatley’s trademark tightrope act between bleak humour and sheer horror. Superb.
